SHOOTING DRILLS
Use the spin pass if you
are alone, to practice the proper footwork.
PERFORM ALL SHOOTING DRILLS by Taking Game Shots, at Game Spots,
and
at
Game Speeds
1. FIVE IN A ROW
Start directly in front of the basket and shoot the ball from 6 feet.
You must make five shots in a row before moving back one step toward the
foul line. Continue to shoot until you reach the foul line.
-If you are having problems with your follow through, try this drill shooting
with 1 hand.
2. 50 POINT DRILL
2 or 3 players. Take turns shooting jump shots or 3 point shots. Count
your points as you make baskets and continue shooting until you miss 2
shots in a row. Then the next player shoots until he misses 2 in a row.
Shoot until someone reaches 50 points.
3. THIRTY-FIVE POINTS
This drill is a perimeter player drill. Your goal is to obtain a perfect
score of 35.
Pick 5 spots on the court. Shoot in the following order:
a. Three-point jump shot (3 points)
b. Up fake, one quick dribble and pull up for jump shot (2 points)
c. Shoot fake and drive for layup. (1 point)
d. Shoot five free throws to finish the game (1 point each)
4. 60 SHOT DRILL
Take 10 shots each from the corner, wing and elbow on both sides of the
court. After shooting 10 from each spot, shoot 2 Free Throws. After each
free throw, take a lefthanded layup, and dribble hard back to the top
of the key with your weak hand. You will shoot 60 jump shots, 12 Free
Throws, and 12 weakhand layups.
5. BEAT THE PRO
The player picks a pro that you would like to shoot against. Start from
the foul line. If you make your foul shot, you get one point. If you miss,
the pro gets 3 points. Then move outside the lane and take jump shots.
Every shot you make, you get one point. For every missed shot , the pro
gets 2 points. The first one to score 21 points is the winner.
6. PARTNER SHOOTING
Player 1 stands about 15 feet from Player 2 . Player 1 throws a pass to
Player 2 and runs at 2 and puts a hand in his face as he shoots the jump
shot. Player 2 rebounds his own shot and passes to player 1.
7. FREE THROW SWISH
A made free throw hitting the rim = 0; missed free throw = -1; swished
free throw not hitting rim = +1
You can play +2/-2 and you win or lose accordingly. Great shooters can
play +6/-2 to put more pressure on themselves. This drill teaches concentration.
